We all set goals. Even if you aren't sure but you have been setting goals in life. At any stage in our life, we set goals. And goals are important too. Goals helps us engage with life and let us experience it.

In a simple definition, A goal is an idea of the future or desired result that a person or a group of people envision, plan and commit to achieve.

In more simpler terms, goal is just an idea of the future. Any outcome you wish to achieve, is a goal.

Yesterday my 5 year nephew was sitting near me and watching youtube videos. I was reviewing our goals for the current quarter. And all of the sudden, he said something. He said, "Chachu I want to learn the table from 1-10."

At first I ignored him. But later I realsised that this is not what you hear from a 5-year-old kid. I asked him why do he want to learn the tables?

He said that "Papa promised he'll buy me a cycle if I can tell the tables." I was amazed with all this.

I realised that the goal setting is ingrained in us from the very early age. Here Dhruv who is 5-year-old, has an idea about the future he want. This in the true sense is the goal setting.

If you want to lose weight and become fit, you have a goal.

If you want to clear your exam, you have a goal.

If you are looking for a relationship, you have a goal.

If you have any idea of the future, you have a goal.

Lack of goals means you don't have any interest in the future, you don't look forward to the future and you don't care how the future unfolds.

When there is nothing that excites anyone or there is nothing to look forward to, people start losing their interest in life.

Last week we had a student who said that she doesn't have any goal. She is satisfied with her body, with her relationships, her career and her income. Everything is fine and she doesn't look forward to anything. In the end she said that all she want is to be happy in life.

Think of it for a moment, she don't want anything just the happiness. Remember goal is the idea of the future. She has an idea of the future where her life is more joyful. Isn't it a goal?

The ultimate goal we aim for is the Happiness, the state of bliss. And all the goals are derived from it. We aim to make more money because we believe it will make us happy. We aim to find the perfect partner because we believe it will make us happy.

Happiness is not something that is in the future. And anyone can choose to experience bliss in whatever situation they are in.

As Gary Varynerchuk once said, "Love the process to your goal and you'll always be happy."

This article was the brain dump of my idea of the goals and how it's all connected with the happiness. Some ideas might not be well explained as I myself lack the clarity on it.

But one thing I am sure about is that we all strive to achieve the state of bliss and we create all sort of goals thinking that they will help us achieve that state of bliss.
